About Us

Based in the humid hotbed of Houston, Texas, Itchy Korean Recordings has been quietly releasing fine independent alternative & punk rock music since 1995.
IKR is run & operated by two very subdued but musically knowledgable asian guys, although, ironically, neither of which are Korean. We are, in fact, Filipino & Chinese respectively. No offense is implied or given to our Korean friends. We've never met a Korean we didn't like!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

1. Are you guys really Korean?
Please see above. We are not Korean. We are Filipino & Chinese. Although our ancestors do come from the same general part of the globe.

2. Then why not call it Itchy Filipino? or Itchy Chinese?
As a result of a thorough public opinion poll, it was voted that "Itchy Korean" just plain sounded better.

3. Ok.ok. Enough about that. What kind of music do you guys put out?
We like to think good music. Usually, we contact bands that we like & if they turn out to be cool people, we just ask if we can release some of their stuff. We find that the less we have to deal with managers, lawyers & accountants, the easier it tends to be. Since bands with managers, lawyers, & accountants tend to be @$$holes.

4. Is it true that the ABC television network made John Lee (a Korean) cover up his Itchy Korean
T-shirt before his band, aMiniature, performed on ABC's" In Concert"??
Unfortunately, this is accurate. Mr. Lee had to don a vivid Hawaiian shirt over his glorious IKR promo shirt. ABC was uptight about the "Punk Rock Asian Rednecks" slogan on the front. But we could see part of it : )

5. Who else was supposed to be on the Fer Shure comp? I heard a rumor about Blink 182?!
We waited years for some DAT tapes to arrive. One of the MIA recordings belonged to Overwhelming Colorfast who recorded the Jam's, "A Town Called Malice" for us, but, unfortunately, Bob Reed never sent it to us. And yes, Blink 182 (back when they were just plain 'ol Blink from San Diego) were scheduled to appear on it, but then they went on to became pop-punk superstars & abandoned us. Boy, if we would've gotten that song we would've been able to retire & would've abandonded us too! Other bands who said they were going to contribute, but never followed through were the Bouncing Souls, & Lucy's Fur Coat. I forgot what songs they were going to do, though.
